Wednesday, August 8th, 2012
The University of Georgia might move a step closer today to selling one of its farms in Oconee County.
The state Board of Regents is expected to approve the sale of the 522-acre property at its meeting this morning in Atlanta.
The Townley Family Partnership, which has extensive land holdings near the farm at 1280 Snows Mill Road, intends to pay $11.4 million for the farm. The property includes 350 acres in cultivation, seven ponds and more than two dozen shops, well houses, barns and other structures, according to documents submitted to the regents’ committee for real estate and facilities.
Under terms of a proposed contract, UGA will be allowed to continue using the farm until Dec. 15, 2015, as agricultural scientists finish up research projects on the site.
