UGA Competitive with Addition of College of Engineering
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012
Come July 1, the University of Georgia will establish the College of Engineering after a decade-long planning period involving establishment of majors and hiring of faculty.
The college is a step toward making the University competitive with other flagship universities with engineering programs.
“It will certainly put us in the game,” said Tom Jackson, vice president for public affairs. “We haven’t been in the game until now. We’ve always said that we were the largest flagship university with neither a medical nor engineering school.”
In 2010, the University partnered with the Georgia Health Sciences University to establish the Georgia Medical Partnership, helping it extend its title as the largest flagship university.
