Beef and Pork Exports Up in December

U.S. exports of beef and veal cuts and beef variety meats during December 2011 were up 3.3 percent compared to the month before, and up 5.7 percent compared to a year earlier. Exports of pork cuts and pork variety meats in December was a little lower than the previous month, but was 16.1 percent higher than December 2010.

Exports of fresh, chilled beef in December were four per cent lower than the previous month, but slightly higher compared to December 2010. Frozen beef exports were 11.3 per cent higher compared to the previous year, according to the USDA's International Meat Review. Exports of beef variety meats during December rose 9.9 percent over December 2010. Total beef variety meat exports during 2011 was 18.3 higher than 2010.
