Pecan Power: This Nut is Packed with Nutritional Value

While pecans have long been a staple in Southern holiday favorites like pies, pralines and cookies, pecan growers are hoping that a new appreciation of the nut's nutritional attributes will give it new life as a staple of healthy meals.
It turns out that Georgia's most prolific tree nut is as good a source of healthy fat and protein as walnuts and almonds, but also contains more antioxidants than any other tree nut, said Ron Pegg, a University of Georgia Food scientist who studies pecans.
