County Extension Comments
“What little rain was received just kept us from backing up much further.”
--Wade Hutcheson, Spalding County, District 40
“Farmers harvested cotton, peanuts and some late corn fields this week. The last few hay fields have now been cut. Both the yield and the quality of the hay harvest has been disappointing. A lot of winter grazing fields were planted this week.”
--Mike Hayes, Wheeler County, District 50
“Wet damp and rainy. Very little field work was done. Rain helped late cotton. Hurt open cotton a little but really hurt dug and undug peanuts on the ground or in soil. Rain varied from 2" to 9"west to east of county. Hoping for some sunny and dry weather for picking crops.”
--Mark Von Waldner, Atkinson County, District 80
“Recent rain and cloudy weather has held up peanut and cotton harvest for the last two weeks. Bermuda grass maggot has really damaged our last cutting of hay.”
--Mark Frye, Wayne County, District 90
