Georgia Organics Conference Offers Farmers Edcuation and Networking
Press Release by Issuing Company
16 February 2011
What: Georgia Organics, the state’s leading advocate for sustainable farmers and organically grown food, will host two days of in-depth learning opportunities, farm tours, and an expo March 11-12 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.
10 In-Depth Workshops and 32 Educational Sessions will cover topics such as pest management, weed management through cover cropping, distribution logistics, pasture management, crop rotation, livestock breeds, pastured poultry, soil nutrition, hoop houses, and much more. The Expo will have more than 70 exhibitors, including input and equipment suppliers.
Farm Tours this year we'll take you to the very beginnings of agriculture in the state, and to the roots of organic farming in Georgia, not to mention trips to some of the state's most cutting edge organic farms. And given that this is Georgia Organics’ first conference in Savannah, we are offering a tour that’s an expedition into the heart of Savannah's rich culinary heritage.
A Farmer Mixer, held Thursday, March 10, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Moon River Brewing Company, will kick start the conference. Organized by the Greenhorns, Georgia Organics, and Coastal Organic Growers, Moon River will provide a private space and is putting together a local food menu, and, of course, their famous house-made brews on tap.
The Farmers Feast, the culminating local food banquet of the conference, will see the presentation of the Georgia Organics Land Stewardship Award, which was created to honor an individual or individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the tenets of organic agriculture – soil fertility, biodiversity, on-farm recycling, and water quality – and also the larger community through leadership, education, and outreach.
