Broilers Placed in Georgia up 1%, Broiler Eggs set up 2%

Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending September 4, 2010 was 27.4 million, down slightly from the previous week, but up 1 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office.

An estimated 32.1 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, up slightly from the previous week and up 2 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type  chicks hatched during the week totaled 26.6 million, down 1 percent from the previous week and down 1 percent from the comparable week a year earlier.  Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 83 percent.
