Georgia's Egg Production Down 4%

The State's laying flocks produced 356 million eggs during July 2010, down 4 percent from the number produced in July of last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. July production included 182 million table eggs, down 9 percent from the previous year, and 174 million hatching eggs, up 2 percent from the previous year.
The average number of layers in all flocks, regardless of size, for July was 16.6 million, down 4 percent from a year ago. The average number consisted of 7.93 million layers in table egg flocks 30,000 and above, and 8.66 million layers for hatching eggs. Eggs laid per 100 layers during July averaged 2,140,up 1 percent from the previous year. All layers on August 1, 2010 totaled 16.5 million, down 4 percent from August 1, 2009 inventory. The rate of lay per day during July 2010 averaged 69.0 eggs per 100 layers, up slightly from the previous year.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2010 totaled 118 million, up slightly from July of the previous year.
U.S. July Egg Production up 1%
U.S. egg production totaled 7.69 billion during July 2010, up 1 percent from last year. Production included 6.58 billion table eggs, and 1.11 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.04 billion were broiler-type and 72 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during July 2010 averaged 339 million, up 2 percent from last year. July egg production per 100 layers was 2,270 eggs, down slightly from July 2009.
All layers in the U.S. on August 1, 2010 totaled 338 million, up 2 percent from last year. The 338 million layers consisted of 280 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 55.0 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 2.95 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on August 1, 2010, averaged 73.2 eggs per 100 layers, down slightly from August 1, 2009.
Egg-type chicks hatched during July 2010 totaled 38.1 million, up 5 percent from July 2009. Eggs in incubators totaled 33.4 million on August 1, 2010, up 6 percent from a year ago.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2010 totaled 801 million, up 2 percent from July 2009. Eggs in incubators totaled 649 million on August 1, 2010, up 3 percent from a year earlier.
